A school counselor is a professional trained in counseling techniques and working with students to promote their academic, personal/social, and emotional development. As a counselor, I work with students individually, in small groups, and in classroom guidance lessons. My goal is to provide students with a positive and accepting environment to help them find the best way to be an EAGLE!
How does your student experience school counseling services?
Classroom Guidance Lessons:
I enjoy my time implementing classroom lessons focusing on emotional and social development through mindfulness activities and group discussions. Each week I challenge the students to find areas in their life to improve to be the most successful student possible. I enjoy my time in our classrooms as it gives your child an opportunity to know me (and for me to understand them) if individual help arises throughout the year. Weekly guidance lessons support Edgemont’s mission statement and teach students how to become an “E.A.G.L.E."
Edgemont’s Mission Statement
Inspiring all students to be...
Empathetic Toward Others,
Academically Accountable,
Goal Oriented,
Leaders,
Empowered to Face The Challenges of Tomorrow.Small Group Counseling:
Group counseling is an opportunity and process for students with similar life experiences to build relationships with their peers and school counselor in a safe environment. Parent permission is required for students to participate in a group. Each group has a central focus (examples include friendship, changing families, academic/study skills) and are formed based on student needs throughout the school year. Small groups typically meet once a week and last 4-8 weeks.
Individual Counseling:
Students are welcome to come and talk to me any time. Students may refer themselves for individual counseling as may school staff or parents. Students seek counseling for many different reasons. Please know that seeing the school counselor is a good thing! I offer a safe, positive and confidential setting to address issues that ‘get in the way’ of school achievement. Parent permission is required for a student to receive individual short term counseling. Referrals will be made to counselors in our community if a student requires more intensive or specialized help than the school setting can provide.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am passionate about education and helping all students succeed at Edgemont Elementary.
