• Section 504

    Go Back

A Section 504 plan is a document that outlines individualized accommodations or “adjustments” to the general education classroom so that a student with a disability can have equal access to their education.

Section 504 covers students of all ages who have physical or mental disabilities that substantially limits a major life activity.  It should be noted that not all students with disabilities are eligible to have a Section 504 plan.

Students who are functioning and progressing well in school without accommodation are typically not eligible under Section 504.

In D91, our school counselors coordinate the Section 504 processes in the building they are assigned.

If you have concerns about your child, contact the main office of your neighborhood school and request to speak to the school counselor.

    504 Process

Section 504 evaluation for eligibility and development of a plan is always completed at no cost to the parent.  Parents are a valuable member of the entire Section 504 teaming process.
