D91 Security and Access Control Guidelines
Ensuring a Safe & Secure Learning Environment
The safety of our students, staff, and campuses is the highest priority. To maintain a secure environment, Idaho Falls School District #91 has established key and access badge protocols to regulate facility access. These security measures help prevent unauthorized entry, minimize risks, and ensure that every school remains a protected place for learning and growth.
Key & Access Badge Security Guidelines
To maintain security across all district facilities, staff members issued keys or access badges must follow these guidelines:
Key & Badge Use
Do not duplicate or share keys/access badges with anyone for any reason—violations could result in legal action.
Always wear your badge visibly while inside any district building to clearly identify yourself as a D91 employee.
Do not attach stickers or location-specific labels to your badge or badge holder to maintain security.
Returning Keys & Badges
Upon termination of employment, staff must return all issued keys and badges to their immediate supervisor.
Employees must surrender keys/access badges upon request by an authorized district administrator.
Lost or Stolen Keys/Badges
Staff must take every precaution to protect keys and badges from loss or theft.
If a key or badge is lost or stolen, it must be reported immediately to:
D91 Human Resources at (208) 525-7500 – The badge will be disabled until found.
If HR is unavailable, contact the D91 Help Desk at (208) 525-7556.
Badge Access & Building Security Guidelines for Contracted Partners
Badge Issuance Process
- Check-out Requirements: All contractors must sign for their badges and review the established safety rules.
- Capacity: We provide non-door access badges for contractor teams exceeding two members.
- Badge Returns: To maintain building integrity, badges must be returned once a job is complete or if the contract is paused for more than a few days. Badges must be turned in and can be reissued upon your return.
Contractor Access Guidelines
- Badge Acquisition
Badges must be obtained directly from the IT or Maintenance Departments. During this time, the specific rules of use will be reviewed with you to ensure clarity.
- Badge Use Rules
- Location: Access is strictly limited to the specific site(s) identified in your contract.
- Authorized Hours: Badges are active only during the hours stipulated in your agreement.
- Building Integrity: For the safety of our students, do not prop open any doors during school hours.
- Transferability: Badges are non-transferable. If a badge needs to be reassigned, a school administrator must submit a formal ticket to the IT Department.
- Expiration: For security purposes, badges are set to auto-expire after two weeks. If your project requires a longer duration, the school can request an extension via the IT Department.
- Lost or Stolen Badges
If a badge is lost or stolen, it must be reported immediately so it can be deactivated. Please contact the District 91 HR Department:
Enterprise Technology Standards and System Requirements
The district standardizes on enterprise-grade products and systems across all technology domains to ensure compliance with safety, security, reliability, data privacy, and quality standards required in a K–12 educational environment.
This applies to all technology-related systems, including but not limited to instructional and administrative technology, network and infrastructure components, security systems, audiovisual and production systems, lighting and control systems, certified rigging and mounting hardware, sound reinforcement equipment, microphones, mobile audio solutions, and gymnasium and auditorium technology.
Consumer-grade products are not utilized, as they typically do not meet the safety certifications, durability expectations, centralized management capabilities, lifecycle support, and vendor accountability required for use in public school facilities and student-facing environments.
Video Surveillance for Campus Security
To further enhance security, D91 schools use video surveillance in key areas. Video footage helps monitor and maintain a safe environment while protecting student and staff privacy.
For more information on D91’s Video Surveillance Policies, refer to Board Policy 402.3.
Your Role in Campus Security
By following these security protocols, you are helping to:
Keep our schools safe by preventing unauthorized access.
Maintain a secure environment where students and staff can focus on learning.
Ensure quick response in the event of security concerns or lost credentials.
If you have any security-related concerns, contact D91 Human Resources at (208) 525-7500.
Together, we can maintain a safe and protected school environment for everyone.
