Welcome Amigos

Welcome Amigos! is a Spanish dual-language program for incoming kindergarten and 1st-grade students. It will be located at one elementary school on the east side of the district, and one elementary school on the west side. Parents must provide transportation.

All students wishing to participate in the Welcome Amigos! program will be chosen through a lottery system. The lottery application window opens Tuesday, May 5 at 9:00 am, and it will close on Friday, May 15 at 3:00 pm.

The above form is the preferred method to apply for the program, but paper lottery applications can also be found at the district office or at the school your child currently attends. This is an open enrollment opportunity, so students outside of D91 attendance boundaries may apply.

A lottery application must be completed for each student interested in the program. Only one (1) entry is allowed for each student. The applicant will be disqualified if more than one (1) application is submitted, or if falsified or incorrect information is provided.  

The goal of the lottery system is to allow fairness and equal opportunity for all students.  The drawing will take place on May 21, with the lottery committee present. The committee includes a district-level administrator, a D91 principal not located at one of the host schools, a D91 teacher not located at either of the host schools, and a D91 parent with no ties to the program. Applicants will be notified of the lottery drawing outcome by USPS mail.

Lottery Preferences                 

1. Two (2) English Language Learner students per class  
2. Students with siblings in the Welcome Amigos! program
3. Children of Idaho Falls School District 91 employees 
4. Students living in Idaho Falls School District 91 attendance boundaries with parents able to provide transportation 
5. Students living outside Idaho Falls School District 91 attendance boundaries with parents able to provide transportation 

Note: There is no preference for students living within the boundaries of the elementary schools that will host the program.

Post-lottery applicants will be contacted for admission after the original waitlist has been exhausted. The waitlist will be held for the entire year.
