Privacy Statement: Protecting Student Educational Records
Idaho Falls School District 91 is committed to safeguarding the privacy of student education records in accordance with federal laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
What is FERPA?
FERPA is a federal law that affords parents and eligible students certain rights with respect to a student’s education records. These rights include:
- The right to inspect and review the student’s education records within a reasonable timeframe;
- The right to request an amendment to records they believe are inaccurate or misleading;
- The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information (PII), with specific exceptions;
- The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the school to comply with FERPA requirements.

How Our District Protects Your Data
We take student privacy seriously and implement the following safeguards:
- Access to student records is strictly limited to authorized personnel with a legitimate educational interest.
- We maintain secure systems and protocols for digital and paper record storage.
- We inform families annually of their FERPA rights through school handbooks and district communications.
- We do not disclose student information to third parties without written consent, except in circumstances permitted by law (e.g., enrollment verification, emergencies, or audits by educational agencies).
